Hepatitis Treatment

Hepatitis depends on the symptoms displayed by the affected person or the type of hepatitis that the person is infected with. Hepatitis is a disease that affects the liver and this disease is acquired by a variety of factors like blood exchange or hereditary factors. Hepatitis disease is broadly classified into hepatitis A, B, C <, D & E types. Hepatitis treatment is carried out only after diagnosing which type of hepatitis virus the patient carries. Prevention for all the types of hepatitis is possible in the form of vaccines except for hepatitis C for which no vaccine is present as of now.

There is no specific hepatitis treatment for the A type hepatitis and the disease gradually wears away on its own. Infected persons just have to ensure a healthy lifestyle and avoid harmful substances like alcohol that damage the liver. Hepatitis treatment for the B type hepatitis is given after analyzing the extent of damage to the liver and the rate of B virus infection in the body. Anti viral medications and injections are given to the affected persons as part of the hepatitis treatment and this could last up to a period of six months in some cases. Although there is no permanent hepatitis C cure, hepatitis treatment for this type of hepatitis is done by administering combined dosages of ribavirin supplements and pegylated interferon alfa shots. There is no specific hepatitis treatment in the form of anti viral medications for the D and E types of hepatitis. Hepatitis treatment will only consist of fluid replacement, ensuring adequate rest and by avoiding liver damaging substances for these two types. In some extreme cases liver transplantation is done but this is done only when the liver has attained a state of no return.
